DIY: ANIMAL PRINT HEADPHONE WINDER

I was super happy when these fancy-smanchy iPhone headphones dropped through my letter box thanks to Three Mobile as my last pair had finally fallen to bits in the depths of my handbag. You know the drill, you get them out of your bag, tangled up in some super sailor knot, you walk down the street trying to undo said knots before throwing them back in you bag only to repeat the process the next day.

I was having a look for a headphone winder on eBay when I remembered I said I needed to use up some of the crafty bits and bobs I have floating around - out came the Fimo and a spur of the moment decision to make one myself! As per usual, i've winged it but managed to take some snaps of the process! I thought i'd recreate the animal print on the headphones so if you fancy giving it a go, here's how!

You'll need:

3 colours of Fimo

Heart cookie cutter

Rolling pin

Wooden skewer 

A sharp knife

Pick the main colour you'd like for your winder and soften a large piece with your hands until it's pliable. 

Roll out to 1/2 an inch thickness and large enough for your heart cookie cutter to fit on top of.

With the second colour of your choice, break off small pieces and squish into random shapes. Place on top of your rolled out base. As it's going to be animal print, the more random the shapes the better. 

Taking your third colour choice, roll out into a very thin sausage.  Place small pieces around the edge of your random shapes in C's and add some small dots. 

Roll your rolling pin across to flatten the the shapes into your base colour. Ta-Da! Animal print!

Place your cookie cutter on top and cut out a heart. 

Taking the flat end of your wooden skewer, make 2 holes about an inch apart, 2 inches from the bottom point of your heart shape. Lay the skewer on its side and make an indent on a slight angle off of your heart shape. You can see this imprint in the photo below. 

Using a sharp knife, cut this line away to create a channel up to the 2 holes. This is where your headphone wire with slot in so make sure the channel is thick enough to allow this.  The thickness of the skewer is perfect.

Place on a baking sheet and bake in a pre heated oven @ 190ºC for 30 minutes. Once it's baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool, this will make it harden up.

Wrap your headphones around it rejoice in tanglefreeness!
