What is washi tape anyway?

You've seen these little, brightly coloured rolls of tape all over Pinterest but some of you may be asking 'what the hell is washi tape anyway?'. As i've become something of a washi tape addict, let me break it down for you and hopefully pass on the addiction! Sharing is caring right?

Washi (和紙) is a style of paper that was first made in Japan and is typically made from hemp, rice or wheat. Washi comes from 'Wa' meaning Japanese and 'Shi' meaning paper.

The simplest way to describe it is masking tape. Pretty masking tape if you will. It's stronger than paper, you can tear it rather than needing scissors to cut it and its removable from most surfaces. (David is seriously in danger of coming home and finding some washi wall art in the office!)

Washi tape makes the perfect alternative to Sellotape when wrapping gifts, more attractive and easier to use - no more scissors, no more huge ball of stuck together Sellotape. You can decorate pretty much everything with this stuff and if you get bored of that decoration, just peel it off! You can also write on it too!

I personally think washi tape is one of the best crafting supply items i've EVER come across. It's affordable and even a couple of rolls sitting on my desk make me happy, let alone the endless ways you can use it.

I do stock washi tape on Haus of Glue and don't forget you can get 10% off using the discount code THEGLUEGUNGIRL which you just need to enter at the checkout.

Still need some inspiration? Here's just 8 ways to get you started using washi tape. I also regularly add to my washi tape board on Pinterest which you can follow HERE.

PS. Don't forget to enter my GIVEAWAY which closes on the 24th April @ 12pm GMT.

Open for business & a celebratory giveaway (CLOSED)!

I feel like i've waited forever to be able to say this but finally... FINALLY... Haus of Glue is online!

What I thought would initially be a simple and straight forward process actually turned into a huge learning curve for me. Let me tell you, numbers are not my strong point! Luckily for me, I have an amazing business mentor and her 'thang' is figures! I touched on the fact that I applied through the government Start-Up Loan scheme and i'll do a proper blog post on this at some point.

Getting all flossy with my new cards!

I feel like i'm starting to build the foundation of a business selling things I am absolutely passionate about and I have so many ideas for where I want to progress and take things. As they say, "from tiny acorns, mighty oaks grow". At least I think that's the saying...

Of course you all know I have a love for anything crafty but ever since I was little, stationary and gift wrapping was so enchanting to me. I would lust over a friend from schools pencil case and the pens she would bring back from her summer holiday in Hong Kong, curseing the rubbish selection in WHSmiths! Furry pencil cases were about as cool as it got! #90s haha.

In later years, i've become a bit of a wrapping magpie and I have to say, wrapping a present for someone is exciting as actually giving it to them.

This has naturally lead me to combine all these elements in Haus of Glue where people will able to buy a collection of little crafty bits and bobs. Crafty confectionary if you will.

You can visit Haus of Glue via the link on my side bar and also keep up to date on new products and promotions via Twitter and Facebook

Anyway, to celebrate I thought i'd offer my bloggy readers, a 10% discount which you can use on your first order by entering the code THEGLUEGUNGIRL at the checkout. This is valid until the 30th of April 2013.

Also i'm giving one of you the chance to win a super pretty Meri Meri bakery file! The only "rule" to enter is that you are a follower of my blog (you can follow me via google friend connect or BlogLovin' if you don't already do so) and this giveaway is open internationally. I'll pick a winner at random on the 25th of April and will announce it on my blog and via email so make sure you check to see if you've won!

Here's how to enter:

1) Leave me a comment telling me where you follow me and include your email address. This is important so I can contact you if you win! If you have a twitter account, you can also leave me your @ so I can notify you on there too.

2) For an extra entry tweet the link to this giveaway and include #hausofglue

If you have any feedback on the shop or if theres a product you would like to see stocked, do drop me a comment. I'll be attending the London Stationary Show next week which I am super excited about!

And that's my big news apart from I also took a trip to Hobbycraft so new tutorials are coming up! I've finally worked out how to use my new camera too and if anyone is interested, I got the Nikon D5100 which I am totally in love with.

Over and Out.
