Book Review: The Bag Making Bible

As we all know, I am a complete novice when it comes to using a sewing machine but, after catching the sewing bug, and getting a little confidence from Sweet Verbena's pencil pouch tutorial, I decided to buy a couple of sewing related books from Amazon and The Bag Making Bible by Lisa Lam is one of them.

The Bag Making Bible is 160 jam packed pages, telling you EVERYTHING you need to know to make your own bags.

Chapters include:

Basic Equipment
The Sewing Machine
Anatomy of a Bag
Getting Start
Choosing Fabrics
Structure & Reinforcement
Linings
Closures
Handles & Straps
Pockets
Edges & Trimmings
Construction
Suppliers (UK & US)
Pull Out Pattern Sheet

If, like me, you are a complete beginner, this book is an absolute must. It explains everything perfectly, in huge detail, but without being overwhelming. Pictures and photos are used at every stage making the step-by-step instructions a dream to follow. When I think of the perfect craft book, this is it.

This book is set out beautifully and this is even the sort of book you'd take to bed to keep on reading once you've turned off the sewing machine! I really cannot praise the thought that has gone into creating The Bag Making Bible enough.

Throughout The Bag Making Bible, there is, of course, 'Let's Make It' sections. One of my favorites is this Oversized Fashionista Bag. This is then proceeded with all the instructions on how to create it yourself.

Also, in the back of the book, there is a huge double sided pull out of the patterns needed.

The Bag Making Bible is way more than a craft book, it really IS a bible for anyone interested in sewing and bag making. This book will teach you techniques that you will learn, and use, for the rest of your sewing life making it a purchase you refer back to again and again.
